Fable 3 – Race for the Crown!

It is said to be a overwhelming even more than Fable 2. “It is based on the Industrial Revolution and will have a more steampunk atmosphere than Fable II.” (Wikipedia)  Now the question is if we, the players will be satisfied.

It is said that the producers will give the inventing of weapons over to the players. That should be really interesting. As Peter Molyneux talks about the Fable 3 in ther interview you feel like you can hardly wait to get your hands on the new Fable game, but everyone has to wait untill the end ofyear until it appears on the market.

Assassin’s Creed II

For Assassin’s Creed II. according to Connected Consoles their will be no pre-launch playable preview! The game that is supposed to come out on Release Date: November 17, 2009 keeps many people excited. I bet everyone wishes for the game to come out faster. Seeing the clips, and game previews many people including me wish to get our hands on it as soon as possible.

But their is some good news the sound track will be released on the 16th. The sound track was composed by Jesper Kyd, who also composed the music for Assassin’s Creed I. But did you know that Assassin’s Creed I. sold 8 million of copies? That should be a good sign that this game will also be entertaining.

Assassin’s Creed II

You will soon find out that being an assassin is not all that easy. The seen is set in Europe in Venice, in the Italian Renaissance, 15th century. While you have the opportunity to use weapons that up until now where only imagined by Leonardo da Vinci (sweet). Not only that but other Leonardo inventions will be at the players disposal for example: the flying machine. The main character is Ezio Auditore da Firenze a deadly assassin.

Enzio the main character in the game has a new cloak, that he has only access to in the in the advanced stages of the game. Some of the other changes in the game is that now their are some collectables like flags, that have a reward if you collect them. But then again their are some items that are just their to ‘collect’. Another feature that may have changed a little “Why is a game character controlled by a controller?”. But the reason that the character couldn’t be controlled by one person is because he is a remembered ancestor of someone else and controlled by: Animus. (I know this is a unusual, but hey it is also something unique.) But Assassin’s Creed II will have more ‘video game elements. Another expected change is that now Ezio can purchase goods, but also hire people. Also a day and night cycle has been added to the game, where some missions can only be achieved at a certain time. One of the amazing feature is to access legendary catacombs, temples, etc. An amazing fact is that Leonardo da Vinci, isn’t just at the side but he is also friends with Ezio.

This story takes about 295 years later than the firs with a new a character mentioned above Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Ezio is full noble who seeks vengeance after his family was betrayed. The character has the freedom to achieve the missions when they desire to, while they roam one of the most spectacular city, Venice.

Sometimes to me playing Assassin’s Creed is not playing a video game. I don’t want it to be. You’re playing an experience.” ~ Patrice Desilets

Things you should know about game designing….

Many people dreamed about becoming a game designers/graphic designers (including me). Designing the next part of that unforgettable game you could not get hooked off from. For example that cool character, or designing a scene where the player feels the fear creeping down their spine . . . . Well before we let the horse run of with us to dreamland, there are some crucial information everybody should know. Like the schooling required, the salary to be expected, and so on.

Game Designer, Illustrator

Game Designer, Illustrator

A short but compact history of game designers, starts in the cave with the carvings telling the way of life of the people (Ok, not that far back). The industry of video games was said to grow 67.9% from to 2012 by The Bureau of Labor. Since then the employment of graphic designers are expected to increase 10% from 2006 to 2016. Their where 261,000 jobs in 2006, the 25% of the designers were self employed. Today many of the firms employing graphic designers, have employed more and more people from outside the United States, and tendencies show that this direction is becoming even stronger.

Salary
In 2002 the graphic designers salary was between $35,000 and $75,000. In 2006 the average game designer earned between $30,600 and $53,310, and the highest salary was said to be $113,000, with ownership/partnership occupation. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the annual earnings in the industries employing the largest numbers of graphic designers were:

Specialized design services $43,410
Advertising and related services $41,600
Newspaper, periodical, book, and directory publishers $34,290
Printing and related support activities $33,930
Newspaper publishers $31,540

Recommended Education

A bachelor’s or an associate degree in graphic design is usually what is required to receive employment. The associate degree takes up 2 to 3 years in a professional schools.

The skills that are usually covered in the schools above, is learning a few basic computer programming languages, for example C++, Maya, 3DS MAX, Softimage XSI. But of course not all the occupations as seen below require the knowledge of theese computer programming languages.

The different job opprutunities at a game designing company.

Concept / Storyboard Artists

Where the ideas and the main scenes are sketched that resemble a comic strip or book. Where the main features of the characters and the moods are put on paper.

Character Artists & Animators
Possesing a firm knowledge on basics of the programming languages, for example C++, Delphi, 3ds Max, with only mentionning a few used for game designing. This step create the characters, and objects that are a key factor in the game.
Level Designers
Here is where the good group working skills are needed, since usually this is done in a team where they design the scenerey/background. It is cruical for the designers to see the whole design in 3D in their head, to know where the player can move, what objects have be placed, etc. This gives the ‘breath’ of the game, as the players feel the chill from the icy weather. If the design is flat the whole project is likely to fail.
Texture Artists
Though this may sound like one of the lousiest job in the game designing, if you give it a second thought you will see that the gleaming of the car, or the texture if the frost, etc.
Video Game Programming
This is the motor that makes the game running. For this there are many programming languages that can be used but the most widely known are: Visual Basic, Java, C++, Mel, etc. It’s recommended to know more program language than one.
Interface Designers
Get to design the menus, and and buttons used for the interface of the games.
Video Game Sound Designer
This field is still a field where great changes are expected. Though today there are schools that give students a basic for the job, a few years ago had to learn the basics of audio technician on the job. But this is also a key element for a prized game.
Video Game Tester
Here is where many people get excited, since your work basicly covers playing games. But don’t get too excited since a lot more is needed than meets the eye.

According to Microsoft Fable 3 will make it’s appearance in mid 2010 or later. Lionhead Studios is going to give the player a totally ‘new and fresh’ look in Fable 3. Their are only a few features leeked about the game. But one of main changes according to Molyneux, will be to take out the ‘mechanical’ look out of the game that was present in the Fable 1 and 2. But what is exactly the mechanical part that will be thrown away? Well no one nows yet, but it is obvious that the interface will go under big changes.

Another expected change will be that the players can become royalty themselves. Which sounds awesome to know that you can rule the people in a way that suites you. But of course their is a twist in the game that whatever you do as royal player their are consequences yo be faced. But I guess the excited players just have to wait and see.
